Gender Equality on Mass Media - The participants on their own words

From 18th to 30th of October of 2021, a group of 5 young Portuguese people from different backgrounds participated, representing DCTR, on an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange Project in Sarkoy, Turkey.

The theme of the project was Gender Equality on Mass Media, covering the gender inequality and stereotypes in media information in each country. It was also explored the use of social media and mass media for the promotion of human rights, gender equality, and social inclusion.

Alongside our Portuguese team, there was also teams from Spain, Turkey, Macedonia, Poland and France – making a total of 30 participants. The activities were based on informal and non-formal learning methods, in which we learned about the nature and applicability of current modern methods of informal and nonformal learning and systems for working with young people in inclusive ways, as well as learning-by-doing methodologies to explore the Gender Equality theme.

Apart from that, we also had intercultural nights, in which each country’s team presented their country, including a debate about the gender equality theme (related stereotypes and consequences in the country).

Overall, we highly recommend this experience, not only because of the project itself, which provided us with a new vision about this current topic, but also because of the cultural experience, and all the friendships we made. It was an amazing personal development experience 🙂
